This yellow sapphire is so vibrant and sparkly and the color just pops! To me it is reminiscent of a yellow canary or a wonderful sunflower! It is just as it was mined having been faceted and polished - completely unheated and untreated just as mother nature made it! I love how the setting is sculptural and allows the sapphire to be seen from the sides as well as the top. There are two diamonds in the tension setting for the gorgeous bright yellow sapphire and the whole top of the ring has pave set round brilliant cut white diamonds for the perfect amount of scintillation, excitement and sparkle! Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are undesirable and such treated stones are of very low value. The sapphire in this one of a kind vintage ring is unheated and untreated making it a wonderful choice for a very special engagement or anniversary ring!
