Here we have a traditionally handmade exceptional quality dark red unheated untreated square cut natural ruby and square cut untreated natural exceptional white diamond ring in platinum.

This luxury ruby and diamond ring is all about quality
- the setting is handmade in entirety and is one of a kind
- the design timeless reminiscent of high Art Deco jewels but with a forward slightly futuristic appeal
- the ruby is unheated and untreated almost never found in modern jewelry and certainly not in modern commercial jewelry
- the ruby is a square cut which is very rare to obtain with ruby and more so with this extra fine gem quality
- the diamonds are cut so beautifully the sparkly is intense and luxurious
- the workmanship and setting are very fine

I love the geometry of the setting which has delicate filigree features visible in the gallery. It is so feminine, so classy and so very eye catching.

The beautiful square cut ruby is eye clean the highest clarity grade that the GIA allow to be assigned to rubies, it is a stunning dark red, unheated, untreated, excellent cut and weighs 0.27 carats.

The total diamond weight of F color VS clarity square cut diamonds is 0.43 carats. F VS is the highest color and clarity grade that a qualified Appraiser can assign to any set diamond.

This makes the total carat weight of the ruby and diamonds 0.70 carats.

Inside the shank there is a Pt900 mark meaning platinum, this confirmed by testing. It weighs 4.33 grams.

This heirloom quality ruby and diamond engagement ring is a size 5 1/4 US (K Australian/UK). It can be sized within a range.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments. This ruby is natural unheated and untreated as they were mined and are of extra fine gem quality.

In recent times many diamonds especially are grown in laboratories. These diamonds are diamonds but are man made. Natural diamonds are more rare and more valuable than their man made counterparts. These man made diamonds are often set without disclosure in modern and contemporary jewelry as a cheaper alternative to natural earth mined diamonds. We do not sell synthetic diamonds. The diamonds in this ring are natural earth mined diamonds and are untreated, which is lovely indeed.

Today we rarely see this quality and sadly most "handmade" rings are cast then polished but not handmade at all and were manufactured using CAD computer imaging design software with molds printed and cast. Stones can even be cast in place and not even set by hand! That means the stones are likely to be lost and the claws are brittle and uneven. These CAD earrings do not have the quality of handmade gold earrings and are unlikely to be able to be passed onto future generations but rather will be scrapped because of the porosity of the metal and other factors of casting using this cheap technology. This handmade ring is quality and will stand the test of time. It is an heirloom jewel like no other.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
