Here we have a dazzling unheated ruby and sparkling white diamond engagement ring in 18K yellow gold.

This timeless ring is set with the rarest of gems- an unheated and untreated ruby. This large stone measures approximately 8.2mm x 6.2mm x 3.4mm and weighs 1.55 carats. This large unheated natural ruby is very transparent and sparkly and in some lights some beautiful natural inclusions can be made out to a trained eye. The color is stunning an intense 'watermelon' red in some lights and a more vermillion orangish red in other lights. Rubies are renown for this phenomena of looking different shades of red in different lighting conditions.

Surrounding this amazing natural ruby is a halo of VS clarity F color hand set earth mined diamonds. In total there are ten of these dazzling diamond accents.

The diamond accents then extend down onto the shoulders away from the diamond halo setting of the ruby solitaire.

The total diamond weight here 0.59 carats.

The total carat weight of rubies and diamonds is 2.14 carats.

Inside the shank it is stamped clearly for 18K yellow gold. It is also marked 155 for the ruby carat weight and 0.59 for the diamond accent weight.

Currently a size 5 3/4 US, there is some leeway to resize.

In total this pretty natural ruby engagement ring weighs approximately 3.9 grams.

The ruby and diamond set face of the ring measures approximately 7/16" long along the finger and rises 5/16" high off the hand (11.2mm, 7.4mm).

This heirloom quality natural no heat ruby ring is in lovely vintage condition and is ready to gift or to wear. There are some eye visible inclusions to the ruby. These are natural syngenetic inclusions from the crystal growth and not any defect. This really is an astonishing quality precious ruby ring

An Appraisal and Gem Report shall accompany this pretty ruby engagement ring.

It shall be sent in a presentation box for safe keeping.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.

Comment:
Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. The gorgeous ruby in this ring is as mother nature made it untreated and unheated!
