These exquisite unheated untreated natural sapphires are well matched. They are round cut unheated untreated and deep blue in color. Like all natural sapphires the sapphires do look different colors in different lighting conditions in daylight the color is a deeper vivid blue, in indoor lighting or shade the sapphires appear darker and more sultry in color.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments. The sapphires in this luxury necklace are are unheated and untreated natural blue sapphires of fine gem quality and they are Eye Clean clarity the highest GIA clarity grade for sapphire.
