Here we have a completely handmade pair of unheated untreated cornflower blue Ceylon type natural sapphire cabochon and princess cut diamond stud earrings in 18K white gold.

The sapphires are exceptional with no eye visible inclusions the ultra high polish of the precious sapphire cabochons acts as a mirror in the photographs reflecting everything nearby. They are dazzling sapphires a perfect velvety cornflower blue that pops against the pure white of the diamonds!

These sapphires are beautifully matched for color and gem quality. They are eye clean the highest clarity grade that the GIA allow to be assigned for sapphires. The color is velvety cornflower blue. Each beautiful sapphire weighs 1 carat for a total sapphire weight of 2 carats between the pair.

The diamonds also are exceptional VS clarity F color the highest clarity and color grade that appraisers who are formally trained can assign to any set diamond. The total diamond weight is 0.53 carats.

This makes the total sapphire and diamond weight 2.53 carats between the pair.

These earrings are really unique the beautiful proportions of the octagon are so different and elegant, the use of elegant extra fine gem quality cabochon sapphires and the choice of square cut diamonds is unusual, beautiful and very classy. The quality speaks for itself.

They have an 18K metal fineness stamp to the reverse meaning solid 18 karat white gold, this confirmed by testing. Together the pair weigh 4.19 grams. This weight is perfect for stud earrings to wear each day.

Each beautiful sapphire and diamond earring measures 7/16" tall by 3/8" wide (11mm x 10mm).

The size and weight are a beautiful choice for a sapphire anniversary gift, a wedding ensemble or a wear everyday luxury pair of stud earrings. The pair are of heirloom quality.

They secure with butterfly friction backs.

Today we rarely see this quality and sadly most "handmade" earrings are cast then polished but not handmade at all and were manufactured using CAD computer imaging design software with molds printed and cast. Stones can even be cast in place and not even set by hand! That means the stones are likely to be lost and the claws are brittle and uneven. These CAD rings do not have the quality of handmade gold earrings and are unlikely to be able to be passed onto future generations but rather will be scrapped because of the porosity of the metal and other factors of casting using this cheap technology. These handmade earrings are quality and will stand the test of time. They are an heirloom jewel like no other.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments.

In recent times many diamonds especially are grown in laboratories. These diamonds are diamonds but are man made. Natural diamonds are more rare and more valuable than their man made counterparts. These man made diamonds are often set without disclosure in modern and contemporary jewelry as a cheaper alternative to natural earth mined diamonds. The diamonds in these earrings are natural earth mined diamonds and are untreated, which is lovely indeed.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
