Here is a huge wonderful high carat mid century emerald and diamond ring which cleverly converts to a striking pendant! Solid platinum. Handmade. Two superb jewels in one, what could be better!
A large and fine marquise emerald of 2.9 carats sits center stage, carefully protected by its platinum setting and a 5.2 carat guard of twenty six tapered baguette diamonds.
The emerald is that desirable medium toned bright strongly saturated green. Green but with just the tiniest trace of blue that makes this the most desirable color for emeralds. Medium toned, meaning not too dark and sombre like some or too pale and wan like others. Bright, meaning it looks lively and has sparkle, not lifeless and dull. Strongly saturated, meaning an intensity or purity of color. This is the kind of emerald I like. Some like the very dark greens but I find these too sombre and lifeless. Clarity wise, the emerald has some light inclusions which can be seen with the naked eye but the inclusions are not obvious and do not affect the transparency or detract from the beauty of the stone. The emerald has has a clarity grade of VS to SI when graded according to the GIA colored stone type 3 standard. Emerald clarity grades are not the same as diamonds. Unlike diamonds, very few emeralds have no visible inclusions. In fact, some light inclusions can improve the overall beauty of the stone, they act like tiny mirrors reflecting light and giving the emerald life and sparkle. Emeralds that truly have no inclusions can look a bit flat and lifeless.
The marquise emerald measures 16.00mm L x 6.22mm W x 5.89mm D with a generous girdle. It weighs an estimated 2.9 carats. The 26 tapered baguettes average 0.20 carats each, total diamond weight 5.2 carats. These are sparkling white F colour VS clarity and so well cut.
The total emerald and diamond weight is 8.1 carats.
The ring pendant itself is 1 1/16" L x 5/8" W (27.5 x 16.5mm) and it rises 7/16" (10.5mm) above the finger. It weighs 13.2 g. Inside the shank it is marked PLATINUM.
The ring is a size 6 1/2 US and can be resized to most sizes.
The pendant is just beautiful to wear and it always attracts admiration, as does the ring of course.
This convertible ring pendant is a custom made one of a kind traditionally handmade jewel circa 1950. Today pieces are rarely traditionally handmade and such pieces are rare indeed!
