Here we have a stunning entirely handmade unheated untreated natural vivid ideal red ruby and diamond ring circa 1950 in yellow gold.

The ruby here is intensely red of extra fine gem quality. It is oval cut and claw set at the heart of this dazzling heirloom quality ruby ring.

This ruby measures 5.75mm by 4.75mm by 3.2mm (depth estimated because of setting) and weighs 0.80 carats.

There are 0.05 carats of SI clarity G/H color natural untreated white diamonds.

The style is timeless, very elegant sexy and sophisticated. It is all about a celebration of the amazing natural redder than red ruby that this ring was designed to showcase!

What an amazing gem it is! The vivid red is a glowing captivating intense color that you can never forget when you see it for the first time!

Inside the shank an 18K fineness stamp is present meaning solid 18 karat yellow gold, this too confirmed by testing.

It is a size 4 1/4 US and is sizable to most sizes.

The ruby rises 1/4" high off the finger (6.5mm) this is a good profile for everyday wear.

The ruby here is rare indeed- rarely do you see this fine color and clarity in an untreated no heat ruby!

This ring would make a perfect choice for a ruby anniversary, a valentine, a forever promise....that to die for never could ever forget marriage proposal.....After all why settle for less than a ruby? Rubies as us girls all know are the rarest gems on the planet alongside those large natural color diamonds...

This is that stunning ring to keep in the family.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
