Here we have a beautiful handmade one of a kind unheated untreated natural red ruby and natural untreated white diamond cluster ruby engagement ring crafted in 18K white gold circa 1970.

This ring is entirely crafted by hand and dates to the later part of the mid century era circa 1970. The design is iconic of that time with a diamond shaped cascading geometric cluster or dazzling red rubies and fine white diamonds. Surrounding the central gorgeous vivid red ruby there are four horizontal rows each featuring two diamond accents that are arranged North, South, East and West. The remaining rubies in the cluster are offset by beautiful white diamond accents that are arranged in chevrons framing the top and bottom of the handmade cluster. This is an inspiring unique ring with intense color contrast that just pops!

There are 2.70 carats of unheated untreated fine gem quality bright red natural rubies, these amazing rubies are eye clean which is the highest clarity grade that the GIA allow to be assigned to any ruby.
There are 0.18 carats of old cut fine white diamond accents VS/SI (mainly VS) clarity F color. VS color and F clarity are the highest grades that can be assigned by a qualified Appraiser to any set diamond.

The total ruby and diamond weight in this ring is 2.88 carats.

Inside the shank there is an 18K fineness stamp meaning solid 18 karat white gold, this confirmed by testing. It weighs 8.34 grams and is size a 7 US (N 1/2 Australian/UK). It is sizable.

I adore how the ruby and diamond cluster sits almost across the whole width of the finger. The stunning ruby and diamond cluster measures 13/16" long by 11/16" wide and rises 1/2" high off the finger (21mm x 17mm x 13mm).

The geometry of this ring is so futuristic but so classic in it's desirability. This is dazzling luxury ring that will always turn heads. It would make the perfect choice for a unique engagement ring, a ruby anniversary ring or a birthday gift because of the quality of the stones, the workmanship and the unique one of a kind design!

It is in lovely condition and is ready to gift or to wear.

Today we rarely see this quality and sadly most "handmade" rings are cast then polished but not handmade at all and were manufactured using CAD computer imaging design software with molds printed and cast. Stones can even be cast in place and not even set by hand! That means the stones are likely to be lost and the claws are brittle and uneven. These CAD rings do not have the quality of handmade gold rings and are unlikely to be able to be passed onto future generations but rather will be scrapped because of the porosity of the metal and other factors of casting using this cheap technology. This handmade ring is quality and will stand the test of time. It is an heirloom jewel like no other.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments. The rubies in this ring are completely unheated and untreated as mother nature made them having been faceted and polished only.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
