This is an exceptional earth mined sapphire bracelet in a tennis style. The bracelet dates to the 1970s and is entirely set with gem quality natural Ceylon sapphires. It is rare to see sapphires in this color for sale today. The sapphires have not been glass filled or diffused or treated with heat as you see as standard in modern jewelry. They are 100% natural sapphires in their original condition as they were mined.
In total there are 27 oval cut sapphires weighing 17.10 carats as estimated in the setting. The tone of the fine sapphires is is medium dark. Their hue is slightly violetish blue, a single sapphire is a slightly dark deep blue near the clasp. The finish, symmetry, and general proportion grades of the sapphires are good. The bracelet measures 7 inches in length and approximately 1/4" wide.
When I took this bracelet outside into the sunshine to look at the color of the sapphires outside I was absolutely astonished by the quality of the stones. Many sapphires have a green overtone or grey overtones which is why you rarely see sapphires set into yellow gold. Only the bluest stones can be set into fine yellow gold.
This beautiful vintage untreated fine gem quality sapphire line bracelet is in excellent condition. There is some natural variation to the colors of the fine gem quality sapphires. A darker vivid blue sapphire is set in the clasp. It is ready to gift or to wear.
To the ancient and medieval world, Sapphires of heavenly blue signified the height of celestial hope and faith, and was believed to bring protection, good fortune and spiritual insight. It was a symbol of power and strength, but also of kindness and wise judgment.
This bracelet is in a classic style that will never date. It is a custom piece. I have never seen another bracelet like this one which is just set with fine sapphires of this quality.
