Here we have an astonishing Art Deco ring set with a large untreated exceptionally rare natural Australian crystal opal cabochon.

Crystal opal of this quality and transparency is rare to find. The opal is completely transparent allowing you to see right through the cabochon as you hold it to the light. The complete transparency of this rare opal is seldom ever seen except in fine antique jewelry. It is virtually completely mined out in Australia today.

This particular opal is very large for such fine crystal opal. It measures 17.0mm by 13.0mm by 3.4mm weighing approximately 4.85 carats as estimated in the setting. The play of color is intense with rolling flashes, floral and pinfire patterns present all at once! We can see mostly greens, blues, violet and yellows in intense neon colors and amidst these beautiful colors are violets and clouds and patches of orange red that come through. Like all the best quality opal it does look different in different lighting conditions and from different angles. You do need light to see the play of color and the type and nature of the light will bring forward a diverse range of patterns and colors. Naturally, the exact display pattern of vibrant colors changes movement, lighting and angle of view - this is called 'play of color' and is the wonderful thing for which fine quality Australian crystal opals like this one are famous.

The setting is special being completely made by hand in solid platinum. This work today is so skilled and painstaking perhaps only a few skilled jewelers could make such a setting. The setting is elegant, simple and timeless.

It is currently a size 4 3/4 US and can be sized to most sizes with ease.

This ring is in lovely condition the opal has lovely polish and is without crazing without chips without any damage. This exceptional heirloom quality precious opal ring is ready to gift or to wear.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
