An extremely rare 1870s solid gold, ruby, sapphire and fine natural pearl negligee necklace.

This delicate hand made necklace is in an exceptionally feminine style. Fine gold chains set with genuine natural pearls. These chains are joined with vivid red earth mined rubies each hand set in fine gold. They form a beautiful mesh which finishes at the bottom with lovely tassels. The clasp and the tassels are set with fine Ceylon cornflower blue sapphire.

Dating to the 1870s it is of museum quality.

In total it weighs 21.45 grams.

Our appraiser has tested the gold and we guarantee it is entirely made from solid 14K yellow gold.

It measures 18 1/8" long around the neck (460mm). The central pendant extends 2 3/4" from the necklace (70mm). The tassels themselves are each 1/2" wide (12mm).

The necklace is set with 240 genuine natural seed pearls. These pearls are not cultured as cultured pearls were not available in this era. Each lovely pearl is perfectly matched to the next one in the necklace.

There are 32 10 point vivid red rubies which are rub over set. For a total carat weight of 3.10 carats. These precious stones are perfectly matched for color and are unheated fine gem quality rubies.

In addition to the natural pearls and vivid untreated red rubies there are 0.41 carats of sensational untreated natural cornflower blue fine Ceylon sapphires set in this astonishing piece.

It is in mint condition.

What I find so lovely about this necklace is how it is absolutely dramatic and completely feminine and delicate at the same time.

This is a one of a kind custom made piece of the most superb quality.

Despite looking very delicate this necklace is not at all fragile. It can be worn constantly without any concerns about it being too fine. The workmanship to make this of such quality it is both delicate and very strong at the same time.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
