A one of a kind genuinely antique Art Deco period custom traditionally handmade unheated untreated cats eye blue sapphire cabochon and untreated natural white diamond 18K gold ring, 4.65 carats total gem weight.
This rare one of a kind sapphire wonderful sapphire and diamond ring dates to the 1920s and is entirely hand made from solid 18K white gold. The wonderful sculptural yet feminine 18K gold pyramid is set with beautiful sparkly white diamonds in a delicate floral design. Set at the apex of the diamond set solid gold pyramid is large unheated untreated blue sapphire cabochon which beautifully captures the light! In some lights this one of a kind large unheated untreated sapphire has a sharp cats eye, in other lights a faint star and in shady or diffuse light the sapphire appears as a beautiful transparent cahochon! This one of a kind large unheated sapphire antique ring is so beautiful and just so unique. It really does look like it is right out of a silver screen movie!
At the center of the ring the gorgeous transparent fine gentle cornflower blue unheated untreated sapphire weighs 3.6 carats. Such sapphires are rare and cannot be compared to modern treated or heated sapphires. Like all natural unheated untreated sapphires there is a variation in color that occurs in different lighting conditions. Indoors there is a slight sultry stormy aspect to the beautiful blue, outside it is the blue of the sky on a summer afternoon.This is a very large and unique blue sapphire!
We have noticed that this interesting stone occasionally shows a cats eye or star effect outdoors or in some lighting conditions. However, most of the time this cats eye or star effect is not visible at all. Although some dealers would sell this as a star sapphire we have priced this as a cabochon natural sapphire as the effect is faint and only visible some of the time. It is an exceedingly pretty sapphire!
There are 42 unheated untreated natural white diamonds VS/SI clarity G/H/I in color with a total diamond weight of 1.05 carats.
The total sapphire and diamond weight is 4.65 carats.
The sapphire and diamond setting measures 3/4" long down the finger and rises 11/16" high off the finger when worn (19.5mm, 17.5mm).
Inside the shank there is an 18K stamp, meaning solid 18 karat white gold, this confirmed by testing. This gorgeous antique ring weighs 6.58 grams.
It is a size 6 1/2 US and can be resized.
It isn't very often that you find a ring which is dramatic and feminine at the same time. This lovely all original ring is both these things. This ring has a special sort of magic- the unique large sapphire and the wonderful setting are very special!

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments. The large sapphire in this ring is a beautiful ethereal color complete unheated and untreated as mother nature made it. The wonderful varied ways this large sapphire appears is unique to this sapphire and the setting is also one of a kind and unique. These facts make this ring an ideal choice for a one of a kind engagement ring, a special sapphire anniversary or a sapphire milestone birthday ring that will be handed down in the family for generations to come.
