A beautiful pair of unheated untreated natural deep blue sapphire and unheated untreated natural diamond jackets and unheated untreated natural diamond stud earrings circa 1970, 9.83 cttw.
These beautiful earrings are composed of a pair of stunning earring jackets dating to the 1950s which have been entirely hand crafted and also an estate pair of classic diamond studs. The jackets themselves consist of a quintessentially mid century design of tiered deep blue unheated untreated natural sapphires and sparkling unheated untreated natural diamonds. Of course as you can see in the photos the luxurious jackets can be worn with any pair of stud earrings that suit.

Each gorgeous earring measures 1 9/16" long and is 11/16" wide (39.0mm x 17.5mm).
There is a clear 750 stamp on the reverse of the jackets meaning solid 18 karat gold, this confirmed by testing. The studs are stamped 14K meaning solid 14 karat gold, this confirmed by testing. The total weight is 16.97 grams (18K jackets 15.88 grams, 14K studs 1.09 grams).
These earrings are a one of a kind custom made design from the era. The fact the sapphires are unheated and untreated is lovely! They are spectacular on and perfect for so many occasions.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are undesirable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments. The sultry deep midnight blue sapphires in these one of a kind traditionally handmade earring jackets are completely as mother nature made them they are unheated and untreated - only faceted and polished. These earring jackets and included classic diamond studs are an ideal choice for a very special sapphire celebration such as an engagement, a sapphire anniversary or a milestone birthday that will be passed down in the family for generations to come.
