Here we have a one of a kind precious crystal opal and diamond platinum ring dating to the 1950s.

The opal is large with such glorious colors and with such a high dome so the colors are visible on every side! Every color of the rainbow is present and the colors shift like vivid splashes of clouds around the opal. The opal body color is an orangeish yellow and is quite pale. It measures 9.35mm long by 8.01mm wide by 7.99 mm tall and weighs 3.59 carats. This carat weight engraved inside the shank.

There are 0.49 carats of VS clarity F color natural white diamonds set as accents in a beautiful slightly assymetric setting. Baguette cuts to the shoulders and round brilliant cuts as accents to each side of the precious opal.

The total opal and diamond weight is 4.08 carats.

Inside the shank there is a platinum fineness stamp, testing confirms the same. It weighs 8.23 grams.

The face of the ring measures a little over 1/2 long by 9/16" wide across the finger and rises 1/2" off the hand (13.5mm x 14.6mm, 12mm).

It is a size 6 3/4 US and can be sized within a wide range.

The opal is one of a kind and a joy to look at!

Unfortunately in the last 15 years most opal has been mined from Ethiopia. This opal whilst beautiful is unstable. It can lose it’s color and go cloudy and has a tendency to craze, crack and break. We do not sell Ethiopian opal.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings. When you see this ring in person the play of color will look different outside, inside and in every lighting condition and in every angle! That is the beauty of course of this exceptionally rare natural gemstone. We do our very best to show every piece accurately in our listings and take photos in daylight equivalent lighting conditions.

Today we rarely see this quality and sadly most "handmade" rings are cast then polished but not handmade at all and were manufactured using CAD computer imaging design software with molds printed and cast. Stones can even be cast in place and not even set by hand! That means the stones are likely to be lost and the claws are brittle and uneven. These CAD rings do not have the quality of handmade gold rings and are unlikely to be able to be passed onto future generations but rather will be scrapped because of the porosity of the metal and other factors of casting using this cheap technology. This handmade ring is quality and will stand the test of time. It is an heirloom jewel like no other.
