This beautiful ruby and diamond ring is all about color. The central lovely unheated ruby is showcased beautifully with a sparkling halo of natural diamonds that extend onto the shoulders of the ring.
The ruby and diamond set face of the ring measures approximately 3/8" long down the finger and has a low profile of 1/4" high off the finger (9.8mm, 6.0mm).
The stunning natural ruby measures 6.0mm x 4.1mm x 2.6mm deep and weighs 0.65 carats.
There are 0.25 carats of VS clarity I/J/K color diamonds
The total ruby and diamond weight here is 0.90 carats in this heirloom ruby ring.
Inside the shank it is signed and there is a metal fineness stamp 14K. Professional testing confirms the same. It weighs 3.1 grams.
It is a size 5 US and is sizable within a range.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments. The lovely pear cut ruby in this ring is unheated and untreated making it a perfect choice for a special ruby celebration ring such as a ruby engagement ring or a ruby anniversary ring.
