Here we have a dainty natural unheated untreated red ruby and white diamond engagement or dress ring crafted in solid 14K yellow gold.

The design here is very feminine and dates to the later part of the mid century era. At the heart of the ring is set the stunning unheated natural ruby encircled by a border of natural white diamonds which cascade asymmetrically down along the shoulders of the ring. This timeless style classic of the 60s and 70s.

I love how pretty this special vintage ruby ring is, it's not too big or ostentatious rather it was designed with femininity and modesty in mind. It's elegant and lovely.

As you know no heat rubies are rare and it's lovely to see here that the designer chose to use just such a ruby- there are no enhancements to this gem quality ruby it is as mother nature made it.

The ring weighs approximately 3.4 grams.

It is a size 5 1/4 US and is sizable within a range.

Inside the shank a clear 14K metal fineness stamp is present, meaning solid 14 karat yellow gold this confirmed by testing.

The central ruby measures 8.1mm by 3.9mm x 2.3mm and weighs 0.55 carats as estimated in the setting.

This special ruby is unheated, untreated and natural as mother nature made it - it has been mined, faceted and polished, nothing else- what a glorious and rare gem!

There are 0.40 carats of J color SI clarity natural white diamonds.

This makes the total ruby and diamond weight 0.95 carats.

It is in good condition and is ready to gift or to wear.

An Appraisal Report is included with your purchase.

We will ship in a presentation box ready for gifting and for safe keeping.

Fine quality unheated untreated rubies are rare and valuable stones and worth much more than heated or treated rubies. Glass filled or beryllium treated or diffused rubies are of very low quality and value.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are undesirable and such treated stones are of very low value.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings
