Here we have a one of a kind handmade custom design untreated natural ruby and sapphire swirl ring in 14K yellow gold made in the 1950s, 3.24 carats total weight.
This stunning ring is entirely made by hand, the workmanship extremely fine.
Of eye catching design a high dome is set with interlocking complimentary swirls. The red - set with fine gem quality natural earth mined untreated unheated vivid pink red rubies and the blue - set with intense vivid medium blue unheated untreated natural earth mined sapphires.
This unique cocktail ring is sizable. It is currently a size 10 3/4 US (V 1/2 AU/UK)
It weighs 9.55 grams, professional testing confirms solid 14K yellow gold.
The ruby and sapphire dome measures approximately 13/16" in diameter by 9/16" high off the finger (20mm x 20mm x 15mm)
There are 1.62 carats of untreated unheated natural rubies and 1.62 carats of untreated unheated natural sapphires.
The total sapphire and ruby weight is 3.24 carats.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments.
