Here we have a dazzling large natural crystal opal and diamond pendant in platinum dating to the late Art Deco period.

The opal here is colorless with intense linear spectrums of neon colors in every color of the rainbows and splashes and clouds of neon color. The colors shift dramatically and vary dramatically in every lighting condition. The predominant color is neon red in flashes and sheets. Every color of the rainbow is present. This is a perfect cabochon and a very large opal indeed! There is no crazying and no areas of potch just intense perfect colors splashing and flashing and moving continually in the light. It doesn't get better than this!

Sometimes this opal is called water opal because the opal is colorless just like looking into a pure water...and that makes the effect of the play of color in the precious color even more spectacular because out of nowhere it seems colors jump out at you! The colors here really POP! These colors are layered and can be seen into the whole depth of the opal not just viewed on the surface like more opaque opals show. This is dazzling quality! A real magical piece!

There are baguette cut diamonds in an almost sunray design left and right of the setting and round brilliants top and bottom. Somehow to me it is reminiscent of sunbeams and also a little like a cross shape in inspiration which is lovely.

The opal itself to me looks just like "fireworks" sometimes these sheets of color can be called flagstone with opaque sections of dazzling color but the complexity of the play of color looks more here like the layered colors of intense fireworks splashing over and on top of each other in a huge visual symphony of color!

I love the reverse of the setting there are these delicate lacelike details of the handmade platinum - the workmanship once again is so fine as to be ethereal and magical just like the special opal it was made for.

There are hand engraved weights of the stones:
3.66 carats for the opal
0.80 carats VS F/G for the diamonds

This makes the total opal and diamond weight here 4.46 carats.

There is also a metal fineness stamp for platinum, testing confirms the same.

In total the pendant weighs 5.49 grams.

It measures 15/16" including the bale by 11/16" wide by 7/16" deep approximately (23mm x 18mm x 11mm). The high dome of the gorgeous opal means that color can be seen in every direction when on the decolletage!

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.

The colors of precious natural opal shift continually in every lighting condition, they play of color will vary constantly in direct light, in light inside in more subdued lighting conditions. The photos are a sample of how this opal looks. This shifting and varied nature of the play of color is a feature of natural precious opal.
