Here we have a gorgeous sparkly natural ruby and diamond engagement, dress or anniversary ring circa 1950 in 14K white gold.

This exceptionally pretty ring is currently a size 3 1/2 US - it is sizable to most sizes.

In total it weighs approximately 2.4 grams.

The diamond and ruby cluster measures approximately 1/2" long by 3/8" wide by and rises 1/4" high off the finger (13.5mm x 9.5mm x 6.5mm). With a low profile this pretty ring is a perfect choice for to wear everyday.

Inside the shank it is signed and there is a metal fineness stamp for 14K gold. Professional testing confirms the same.

The two larger diamonds measure respectively 2.6mm and 2.0mm. These pretty exceptional white diamonds are surrounded then by a border of 1.5mm round brilliant cut diamonds.

The total diamond weight of VS clarity F color diamonds here is 0.27 carats.

There are 0.24 carats of round brilliant cut natural ruby accents set around the outside of the cluster for wonderful color contrast.

The total carat weight of rubies and diamonds is 0.51 carats.

Today we rarely see this quality and sadly most "handmade" rings are cast then polished but not handmade at all and were manufactured using CAD computer imaging design software with molds printed and cast. Stones can even be cast in place and not even set by hand! That means the stones are likely to be lost and the claws are brittle and uneven. These CAD rings do not have the quality of handmade gold rings and are unlikely to be able to be passed onto future generations but rather will be scrapped because of the porosity of the metal and other factors of casting using this cheap technology. This handmade ring is quality and will stand the test of time. It is an heirloom jewel like no other.

This stunning ring is in lovely condition and is ready to gift or to wear.

An Appraisal Report shall accompany this delicate ruby and diamond ring.

We shall ship in a presentation box for safe keeping.

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments.

In recent times many diamonds especially are grown in laboratories. These diamonds are diamonds but are man made. Natural diamonds are more rare and more valuable than their man made counterparts. These man made diamonds are often set without disclosure in modern and contemporary jewelry as a cheaper alternative to natural earth mined diamonds. The diamonds in this ring are natural earth mined diamonds and are untreated, which is lovely indeed.

The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
