A late Georgian fine diamond portrait pin in 18K gold and fine sterling silver.
The miniature portrait depicts a demure pretty young lady wearing a lovely bonnet decorated in fine blue silk ribbons. Her beautiful gown matches the accent on her lovely hat. Surrounding her lovely portrait is a halo of fine rose cut diamonds which encircle the entire portrait.
In total there are 1 1/2 carats of fine diamonds set in this amazing antique brooch. Typical of the time it is made from solid 18K yellow gold and silver. Silver was used to set diamonds so as to display them without clouding their exceptional white color. Platinum at this stage had not been used in jewelry making and white gold was not invented until the deco period.
It weighs 12.65 grams. On the reverse typical of pieces this era it secures with a c clasp. From top to bottom it measures 1 9/16" long and is 1 1/4" wide at the widest (40mm x 32mm).
A bale could easily be added to the top of the brooch by a jeweler so it could be worn as a pendant as well.
This is an exceptional item which would be a lovely acquisition to any collection of fine antique miniatures or genuine antique jewels.
It is in very good condition. There is a faint line across the miniature which is difficult to see.
