A spectacular genuine 18th century crucifix circa 1750 crafted from solid 18K gold and set with hand polished diamonds.
This gorgeous piece is very rare and is a genuine 18th century jewel and not any reproduction. What sets it apart from other crosses of this era is the very feminine and beautiful foliate design at the top of the cross.
It does not have any hallmarks but has been assessed by an appraiser and is guaranteed to be solid 18K yellow gold.
In total it weighs 11.7 grams.
It measures 2 5/8" long by 1 7/16" wide by 1/4" deep (66mm x 36mm x 7mm)
There are approximately 1 carat of diamonds set in this lovely cross. These diamonds have been polished from the crystals and or cleaved then polished rather than rose cut.
If you consider the 250 years of age this piece has it is in astounding condition. There is a single missing very small diamond and the top foliate designed section is slightly twisted to one side. It cannot be cleaned with water only polished as it has enclosed diamonds. For this reason there is some tarnish from normal wear visible on this piece. It is otherwise strong intact and could be worn as an everyday piece.
It's lovely to come across these early jewels. It feels beautiful to hold and the old cut diamonds give a very special twinkle when the light catches them. I adore the bloomed finish age has given the gold it looks refined and very luxurious.
