An huge exceptionally rare museum quality one of a kind mid 18th century genuine Georgian period 18K gold & silver dress ring circa 1750, 23.2 grams, 13.85 carats total gem weight.
This ring brings us back in a hop skip and a teeny jump to around two hundred and seventy five years ago to a ball. The enormous room filled with beautiful men in dress coats who are dancing with powdered wigged women. Everyone dress to the nines in every color of silk flowing dresses are swishing across the floor to the tinkle of harpsichord music. The most wealthy in the crowd of dancers adorned with glittering old cut diamonds. A hand extends for the next dance adorned with the most enormous and luxurious glittery amethyst diamond ring. Your eyes can't stop staring at it...
Sometimes pieces are wonderful in that they are a living example of a different wonderful time. The nostalgia is overwhelming and how fascinating! This lovely ring is an exceptionally rare one of a kind ring of dating to the mid Georgian period.
The design is extremely opulent. There are three separate tiers of old cut twinkling natural diamonds cascading from a central high dome elegant and sultry natural amethyst and also down to trefoil diamond set shoulders. Even the underside of the ring is hand engraved in an gorgeous floriate design whilst the shank itself is also spectacular and ornate! Certainly this is a magical period piece!
The top of the ring measures 1 5/8" long by 1 1/8" wide and rises 9/16" high off the finger when it is worn (42mm x 29mm x 15mm). It really makes a huge splash on the hand and draws the eyes.
It is a size 7 3/4 US.
The central saturated unheated untreated natural purple amethyst cabochon is large with a sultry elegance and it measures 20.03mm by 9.71mm by 7.3mm, weighing 11.45 carats.
There are an estimated 2 carats of glittering unheated untreated natural old cut diamonds.
This makes the total gemstone and diamond weight in this glorious antique diamond ring 13.85 carats.
