An exceptional natural blue sapphire engagement ring.
Dating to the 1970s here we have a superb mid century modernist geometric cluster ring set with natural unheated deep blue navy sapphires and old cut diamonds. 3.83 carats total weight (3.77 carats sapphires)
It's such an eye catching ring with staggered and then parallel marquise cut and square step cut sapphires arranged in a perfect tiered rectangular design. The visual impact is like a futuristic cigar band.
The color of the sapphires is gorgeous a deep blue with vivid blue cornflower flashes of color. Inside the sapphires are a little more subdued and outside the vivid blue flashes are a little dazzling.
This unique sapphire ring is custom made and has been handmade in it's entirety- absolutely no CAD casting or modern technologies here - this is an original period ring and not a reproduction.
I love the fact that old cut diamonds have been used as the accents - in total there are 0.06 carats of VS clarity G color hand set diamonds set as accents in the cluster.
The fine gem quality sapphires in this estate sapphire ring are matched very well for color - each sapphire is unheated and untreated in any way they are just as mother nature made them having been faceted and polished only. The total sapphire weight here is 3.77 carats with the largest sapphire weighing 0.53 carats as estimated in the setting.
In total there are 3.83 carats of unheated natural earth sapphires and natural sparkling old cut white diamonds in this fine vintage sapphire ring.
Inside the shank there is an 18K gold mark and two lion passant stamps - please note this is not an English manufacture ring. The metal has been professionally tested and is confirmed to be solid 18 karat white gold.
Currently a size 5 1/4 US sizing it can be resized within quite a wide range. It weighs 7.52 grams.
The sapphire and diamond set geometric cluster itself measures approximately 13/16" wide by 9/16" wide by 3/8" tall (20mm x 14mm x 9mm).

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments.
The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
