Like the best jewelry from the Art Deco era this ring is completely handmade with no machined or cast components.
It is a size 5 1/2 US and can be resized within a wide range.
In total it weighs approximately 6.9 grams.
The ruby and diamond set face of the ring measures approximately 1/2" long and rises just 1/4" high off the finger (13.3mm, 6.1mm).
At the heart of this exceptionally feminine natural ruby ring sits a beautiful no heat red ruby. This stunning gem quality ruby measures approximately 6.6mm x 5.3mm x 3.0mm and weighs 0.90 carats as estimated in the setting.
Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) “residues” or “minor residues” or perhaps “foreign substance”. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments. This gorgeous ruby is natural unheated and untreated as it was mined and of extra fine gem quality.
There are a total of 0.53 carats of VS clarity F color accent diamonds consisting of a dazzling array of baguette cuts and single cut diamonds.
