We have noticed that this interesting stone occasionally shows a cats eye or star effect outdoors or in some lighting conditions. However, most of the time this cats eye or star effect is not visible at all. Although some dealers would sell this as a star sapphire we have priced this as a cabochon natural sapphire as the effect is faint and only visible some of the time. It is an exceedingly pretty stone.
It isn't very often that you find a ring which is dramatic and feminine at the same time. This lovely all original ring is both these things. It measures 3/4" long down the finger and rises 11/16" high off the finger when worn (19.5mm, 17.5mm).

Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell sapphires with these treatments.
The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
